The Rule of Thirds - Can Be Broken - Once In A While

The rule of thirds is not really a rule at all but a simple guideline to create composition and balance to your images. The rule of thirds can be broken depending on what the photo is trying to convey.

So what is the rule of thirds? It is simply dividing your view finder with 2 imaginary equally spaced vertical and horizontal lines from top to bottom and left to right. At the 4 points where these lines connect is where generally you want your subject to be. The opposite point from the subject is called the counter point which is what creates balance in your image. When there is no counter balance the image will create more dept of field leaving the eye to wonder and reach out to the distance. This is an effect that you may or may not want.

Having your subject at one of the 4 points is said to be following the rule of thirds. Again following this rule is not always necessary. If the focal point is the subject and only the subject have them in right smack in front of the viewfinder.

Wedding Portrait Tip Of The Day

Take Unique Wedding Portraits From Up High Or Change Your Perspective

Taking wedding digital photography pictures from a bird's eye view or any view other than an eye level view can get your picture a double glance and evoke imagination and curiosity by the viewer. Cameras with a flip screen or having a stepping stool or ladder are usually great tools to have for those up high shots.
